They eventually cast Keira Knightley to play the lead female role and since she is quite famous, they decided that having a less famous actor to play the male lead was a good idea. Thus, they cast Matthew Macfadyen to play the male lead.
The movie has a lot of themes, but the themes that stand out strongest are marriage, morality and misconceptions. One could also say that family issues and miscomunications also are a theme, in the sense that it does not seem like Elisabeth's parents agree with her choices. Not that it seems that her sisters do either. Miscomunications could also be a theme, because Elisabeth and Mr. Darcy have troubles understanding each other at times.
There are also others that wish to break them apart when they have finally gotten closer, but they did not thnk any differently of each other because of it. What's even better is that Elisabeth's father, Mr. Bennet gave his blessing to them, and they could get married.
I love this movie because at certain scenes you can relate. I think the casting is really good as well. They made it seem pretty believable that this is set in the late 1800's. I will read the novel as well at some point, but right now I'm very content with watching the movie. I really reccomend this movie for pretty much anyone that likes drama, love, old settings and naturally, happy endings.
