The American writer Suzanne Collin published the first science-fiction book in The Hunger Games-serie in 2008. The book is written in the 1. person perspective and the main character is a 16-year-old girl named Katniss Everdeen. She lives in the dystopian, post-apocalyptic nation of Panem in North America. The location is The Capitol, a very advanced metropolis.
Each year a
girl and a boy at an aged between 12 and 18 are selected from each of
the twelve districts surrounding The Capitol to compete in a
televised game. The last one to survive is the winner of the games.
Many authors and major
reviewers gave the book good feedback. They praised it for its
storyline and character development. Many reviewers pointed out the
similarity to the book Battle
royal (1999) by
Koushun Takami.
Collins found inspiration in Greek mythology, Roman
gladiator games and contemporary reality television for the thematic
content.
The
book has won different prices, such as the California Young Reader
Medal and in 2008 it was named one of the Publisher Weekly's “Best Book of
the Year”.
The
book is translated into 26 different languages and hadsold over
800,000 copies by the year 2010! The
greatest thing about the book is that you can get it in any format; Hardcover, paperback and ebook. If you don't like to read, you can
even get it as an audiobook! The book was also made into a movie in
2012. The Hunger Games is the first book in the trilogy. Catching
Fire
is the second and Mockingjay
is the third.
I
think this is a great book! I would say that it suits the booklovers
best because it so advanced. It introduces a whole new world you have to
remember and understand. If you're not used to reading books, that could
be a problem. If you're not a fan of the science-fiction category,
like me, you will probably like the book anyway because it's not just
sci-fi. It's about love and the instinct to survive. It's well
written and creates
good images.
