The Irish novelist John
Boyne published the novel “The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas” in
2006. The novel had sold over five millions copies as of March 2010. No wonder it sells well, because it is a
great novel!
The movie based on the novel
was released late in year 2008. Mark Herman wrote the screenplay and
directed the movie. Asa Butterfield did a great job as the lead role,
Bruno, the eight-year-old boy.
The story is about an
eight-year-old boy, the son of a high-ranking SS officer, his mum and
his twelve-year-old sister. The boy, Bruno, grows up during World War II in Berlin, Germany. When his father is promoted to
commandant at a concentration camp, the family moves to a place
called “Out-With” (Location of the Auschwitz concentration camp).
Bruno is not
allowed to explore the surroundings of the house. He is bored and
curious, so he decides to explore around the house anyway. On his
excursion he
spots a boy on the other side of a big, electric fence. He finds out that his name is Shmuel.
Bruno doesn't understand
that Smuel is a Jewish boy, and he doesn'tunderstand why he cannot leave the other side of the fence. The movie is about the friendship of the two boys and how Bruno discovers the concentration camp.
I would recommend the
movie! It is a great! The theme is tragic, but it is made into a beautiful story that
is worth watching!
