The boy in the striped pyjamas

The Irish novelist John Boyne published the novel “The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas” in 2006. The novel had sold over five millions copies as of March 2010. No wonder it sells well, because it is a great novel!

The movie based on the novel was released late in year 2008. Mark Herman wrote the screenplay and directed the movie. Asa Butterfield did a great job as the lead role, Bruno, the eight-year-old boy.

The story is about an eight-year-old boy, the son of a high-ranking SS officer, his mum and his twelve-year-old sister. The boy, Bruno, grows up during World War II in Berlin, Germany. When his father is  promoted to commandant at a concentration camp, the family moves to a place called “Out-With” (Location of the Auschwitz concentration camp).
Bruno is  not allowed to explore the surroundings of the house. He is bored and curious, so he decides to explore around the house anyway. On his excursion he spots a boy on the other side of a big, electric fence. He  finds out that his name is  Shmuel.
Bruno doesn't understand that Smuel is a Jewish boy, and he doesn'tunderstand why he cannot leave the other side of the fence. The movie is about the friendship of the two boys and how Bruno discovers the concentration camp.

I would recommend the movie! It is a great! The  theme is tragic, but it is made into a beautiful story that is worth watching!

Pride and Prejudice (2005 movie)

Pride and Prejudice is a movie from 2005 and it is based on a novel by the same name which was written by Jane Austen. The director of the movie is Joe Wright. When it came to casting, Wright found it difficult to choose actors and actresses. What turned out to cause some issues too, was to get everyone to agree. They could not cast anyone without everyone/ the majority of filmmakers agreeing, as well as the studio.
They eventually cast Keira Knightley to play the lead female role and since she is quite famous, they decided that having a less famous actor to play the male lead was a good idea. Thus, they cast Matthew Macfadyen to play the male lead.

The movie has a lot of themes, but the themes that stand out strongest are marriage, morality and misconceptions. One could also say that family issues and miscomunications also are a theme, in the sense that it does not seem like Elisabeth's parents agree with her choices. Not that it seems that her sisters do either. Miscomunications could also be a theme, because   Elisabeth and Mr. Darcy have troubles understanding each other at times.

There are also others that wish to break them apart when they have finally gotten closer, but they did not thnk any differently of each other because of it. What's even better is that Elisabeth's father, Mr. Bennet gave his blessing to them, and they could get married.

I love this movie because at certain scenes you can relate. I think the casting is really good as well. They made it seem pretty believable that this is set in the late 1800's. I will read the novel as well at some point, but right now I'm very content with watching the movie. I really reccomend this movie for pretty much anyone that likes drama, love, old settings and naturally, happy endings.

Water for elephants - the Movie from the Book

The young veterinary student and almost graduate, Jacob, looses his parents in a car accident, and in his grieving, he packs his things and goes for a walk. He walks and walks and walks. He follows the train rails until a train passes by. He manages to jump on to the train, and there he sleeps in a hidden spot. When he wakes up, the train has stopped. When he gets off the train, a lot of things has happened. He stops the first guy he sees, and asks him where they are. He tells him that he is at a circus. Jacob finds another guy, , who turns out to be the manager of the circus. They talk for a while, and when Jacob mentions that he is a veterinarian, the manager takes him to see a sick horse. When Jacob does a good job with the horse, the manager decides to hire him as the circus veterinarian.
In the beginning, the manager seems to be a good guy. He has a lovely wife and he can get anything he wants. He should be very happy with his accomplishments, but he is not. Whenever something that he doesn't like happens around him, he snaps. Almost nothing can stop him, and he would be able to kill without guilt. Jacob has to be extremely carefull about what he says, and does around him, or he might be dead in seconds. The wife of the manager knows about his issues and she is sometimes very scared. Jacob wants to help her, but this leads to a dangerous situation..

The movie was released in 2011. It was directed by Francis Lawrence, and the screenplay was written by Richard LaGravenese. It was based on Sara Gruen's novel with the same name, from 2006. It had a budget of $38 million. The movie won the Favorite Drama Movie Award in the 38th People's Choice Awards. Jacqueline West won the Satellite Awards for the Best Costume Design, and Robert Pattinsom won the 2011 Teen Choice Awards for Choice Movie Actor - Drama.

The reason why I like tris movie, is first because of Robert Pattinson, who plays Jacob, and secondly, because of the tension. When you watch the movie you fall in love with the characters and you don't want anything bad to happen to them. So whenever it seems to be going badly, you'll sit there with your shoulders over your ears. And when good things happen,  you feel happy. That is one of the things I love about the movie. All the emotions that comes with it. I would give this movie an A!

GONE!

One second. That’s all the time it took to change their lives. No one knows why, and no one knows where, but everybody over the age of fifteen is simply gone! And all the children have to take care of themselves. Sam Temple becomes a leading figure. Some of the kids help. They have special powers; Some can shoot fire, some can run fast. Others are strong, can fly, or even read minds. Every child in Perido Beach was scared, and then came the "rescue".
A gang of kids from a private school for the troubled kids come along, claiming that they know how to save them. At first everybody trusts them, but they turn out to be evil...   Sam Temple have saved the children once before. Can ha save them again?

This is a small summary of what happens in the book, GONE. It is one of my favorite books of all time. I really love it. it is exciting, and intense. When you think you know exactly what will happen next, it will still surprise you. Everything is unexpected and new. The book was written by Michael Grant, and it was published in 2008.

Michael Grant aka Michael Reynolds was born July 26, 1954. He has written over 150 books,  most of them are as a co-author with his wife. He was raised in a military family, and he attended ten different schools in five different states, as well as three schools in France. He became a writer in part because it was the one job that wouldn't tie him down to one specific location. Gone is in fact the best selling book that he has written so far. Most of his books are aimed at young adults.

I would recommend this book to everyone who likes fantacy, romance, and action, but doesn't want too much of all these things. This book is perfect for all those people. If I was to give it a grade, I would totally give it an A!

The Hunger Games

The American writer Suzanne Collin published the first science-fiction book in The Hunger Games-serie in 2008. The book is written in the 1. person perspective and the main character is a 16-year-old girl named Katniss Everdeen. She lives in the dystopian, post-apocalyptic nation of Panem in North America. The location is The Capitol, a very advanced metropolis.

Each year a girl and a boy at an aged between 12 and 18 are selected from each of the twelve districts surrounding The Capitol to compete in a televised game. The last one to survive is the winner of the games.

Many authors and major reviewers gave the book good feedback. They praised it for its storyline and character development. Many reviewers pointed out the similarity to the book Battle royal (1999) by Koushun Takami.

Collins found inspiration in Greek mythology, Roman gladiator games and contemporary reality television for the thematic content.

The book has won different prices, such as the California Young Reader Medal and in 2008 it was named one of the Publisher Weekly's “Best Book of the Year”.

The book is translated into 26 different languages and hadsold over 800,000 copies by the year 2010! The greatest thing about the book is that you can get it in any format; Hardcover, paperback and ebook. If you don't like to read, you can even get it as an audiobook! The book was also made into a movie in 2012. The Hunger Games is the first book in the trilogy. Catching Fire is the second and Mockingjay is the third.

I think this is a great book! I would say that it suits the booklovers best because it so advanced. It introduces a whole new world you have to remember and understand. If you're not used to reading books, that could be a problem. If you're not a fan of the science-fiction category, like me, you will probably like the book anyway because it's not just sci-fi. It's about love and the instinct to survive. It's well written and creates good images.

Dan Brown

Dan Brown was born June 22 in 1964. He is an American author who mostly writes thriller fiction. The novel he is best known for is The Da Vinci Code. His novels are treasure hunts set in a time span of  24-hours. They also feature recurring themes, such as keys, codes, conspiracy theories, symbols and cryptography. His books have been translated into 52 languages and had sold over 200 million copies, as of 2012. Only two of his books so far have been made into movies, these books are The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons.

The novels that are most popular all have the same main character, Robert Langdon. These novels also include historical themes and Christianity as motifs and as a result have generated controversy. He states on his website that his books are not anti-Christian, but some choose to think of them as that regardless of what he says. The Robert Langdon series is currently the seventh best selling series of all times.

Dan Brown was born and raised in New Hampshire in the U.S, and is the oldest of three siblings. Even from a young age he liked secrets and puzzle games. He could spend hours on working out anagrams and crossword puzzles. He tried later, after graduating college, to become a singer and songwriter. He did not fail, but he was not very popular. In 1991 he moved to Hollywood to pursue a career as a pianist. During that time he met Blythe Newlon. They became quite close friends and then later got together and moved back to New Hampshire, and they married near Pea Porridge Pond in 1997. She helped him with his books and she still does. However, they did write a book together. This book was called 187 men to Avoid: A Survival Guide for the Romantically Frustrated Woman. This novel was published  under the pseudonym "Danielle Brown".

I have read almost all of his books, and so far, Inferno was the best. The way he writes his books has inspired me to  write too. I can't wait to read more books by this marvellouous writer in the future!
